Be prepared to be the center of attention, especially outside of the major urban centers where "foreigners" are scarce.

Things to Bring:
shavers
blades
a GOOD tour book with Maps (ask someone
who's been!)
seasonal clothing, a Mandarin phrase book
first aid kit
much patience (things work slow, always
allow much extra time for traveling)
a laptop computer is convenient (but not
necessary)
anti - diarrheal medicine
anti-bacterial hand lotion
the equivalent in RMB (Chinese currency)
of your first months salary
some knowledge of Chinese cuisine (many
basic dishes have strange names, outside of what you may have learned in Chinese
class!)
pain relievers (tylennol, aspirin)
benadryl
feminine products
mosquito repellent
good walking shoes or boots
a text for lesson plan ideas
Things NOT to Bring:
Too many clothes! Pack reasonably, this will enable you to travel much
more easily.
Blow drier
DVD player
sports equipment (like a basketball)
too many towels and face cloths (can be
purchased very cheap)
